Local Moving – Perception & Comprehension | Usually a move within a 100 mile radius of your current residence considered as a Local move. Local move charges are based on an hourly rate per each mover working in the field and the packing materials costs.
| By default the moving consultant will appoint as many movers as he see fits according to your specific move needs (household goods volume / weight, long carry, flights and such). You can ask for another mover for an extra charge and in a lot of cases it would turn out to be cost-effective. For example: hiring 2 movers will cost you approximately $70 per hour, adding another mover will raise the cost to $100, but by having more people working the working time (hours) may cut down. By adding $30 per hour you might save third of the total time it would have taken the move with only 2 movers. Adding more movers is mostly effective when your move is large and estimated for at least 8-10 hours. Local moving insurance by law is only 30c per pound and although does not really give you the compensation for damage if any, additional insurance is hardly ever needed. Only in cases of moving highly valued furniture and electric machines you may want to consider using the services of a professional insurance company. Because the charging of a local move is based on hours you can help reduce the total charge by using any of the following guidelines: | - If possible take as many items with you. Take items that if going in a moving van will require packing such as computer, facsimile, plants, pictures and painting.
- Dispose of any left of foods in advance; consider donating to a local charity.
- Order moving boxes and other packing materials and do some simple packing by your self. Not only would the cost of ordering these packing supplies would be cheaper in most cases then the cost of buying from the mover it would also save some precious time. If you have decided to do all the packing yourself , let the moving company know and be sure to be finished packing by the time the moving truck gets to your home.
- Detach all electronic items cords and wires and wrap them securely to their appliances.
- Disconnect and clean your refrigerator and other large appliances. Use our packing guide to assist you with that or contact your moving company for further guiding.
- In moving in or out of a building apartment reserve one of the elevators in advance to the moving time scheduled and notify the moving company about the importance of time precision.
- Have an organized plan for each item (box or furniture) where should it be positioned at your new residence. It would help to categorize the boxes with special stickers or marks.
- Mark in a noticeable way each box containing fragile items. Special "Fragile" stickers are available at stores.
