Best Moving Quotes.com had gathered all important information to help making your auto transport as easy, smooth and safe as possible:

Before Pick-up

Follow these guidelines to prepare your car to be transported:

  • In order to document any scratches or dents exists in the car prior to move, wash the car thoroughly and write down a full report and take photos of the damage. These photos are to help protect your self in case of any kind of damage during the transport.
  • Pack and take with you all personal items from the car. Most insurance for this type of move do not cover personal items stored inside the car.
  • Disable car alarm.
  • Leave gas tank not more then half full in order to lighten up the load for the shipper.
  • Detach all possible vehicle accessories such as spoilers, fog lights and other specially installed items that are easily removed.
  • Fold your mirrors backwards before handing the car to the mover.
  • Convertibles should be transported with the roof top close. In case your car does not have a roof, make sure to cover it securely with a tarp that can resist water and winds.
  • Do a thorough vehicle inspection as soon as possible to the transport day. Get the car condition documented.
  • Make sure your cars' battery is fully charged; tires are inflated correctly, and fill all other fluids in the cars' engine. If you have any leaks notify the driver of the transport truck. Leaking cars should be transported in the lower deck of a two decks transporting truck, to prevent leakage on other vehicles.
  • Prepare a list of any special operating instructions for your vehicle and hand them over to the driver.

Pick-up

There are only 2 crucial guidelines for a smooth pick up process it self:

•  Be on time –

Make sure to be as punctual as possible and meet the transport truck at the place and time you've scheduled. Remember to schedule the pick up to a place of easy access for the truck. Remember the truck has more cars to pick up. Each delay in the pickup can cause a delay at the delivery.

•  Releasing the car – singing the contract

The truck driver will fill in a form of the car condition with exact mileage, destination and origin information; verify the information before signing and receiving a copy. This report will be useful for you at the time you receive the car at the destination to check your car status is the same as it was before. If you are not the person who will be at the car delivery point, send a copy of this report to the person who will accept the car.

Delivery

Meeting the Truck:

  • Be on time–
    • Make sure to be as punctual as possible and meet the transport truck at the place and time you've scheduled. Remember to schedule the pick up to a place of easy access for the truck. Remember the truck has more cars to pick up. Each delay in the pickup can cause a delay at the delivery.

Receiving The Car at the delivery -

  • Follow the report you have received on the pickup to check and measure every thing in the car is the same as it was on pickup. Remember by signing the delivery contract you are agreeing you have no complaints about the auto transport service and you've received the car as it was before. From now on all damage you find is not on the auto transport company responsibility.

Damage control–

  • In most auto transports there is no damage and the costumer could be calm about car shipping company handing his car.
  • However, damage does occur sometimes and it is always a good tip to be safe then sorry. If the transport goes well, great, but if it happens that your car transport was the one out of many getting damaged, this is what you should do:
  • Get the transport truck driver to sign the report form you've received at the pick up, after filling up all current information of the car.
  • Decide if the damage done to your car is due to the auto transport mishandling your vehicle.
  • Contact the auto transport company that did the transport for you and describe the damage done to your car.
  • If the damage is on the carriers' responsibility claim for a compensation for the damage.
  • If a damage reimbursement cannot be claimed from the company, contact the insurance company your car is insured with.
  • Don't forget to use the document condition you've ordered for your car before the transport. If you took our advice and took pictures of your car, it could help you using them as well.
